Counselling
Work through life’s challenges with a counsellor who listens, understands your needs, and helps you find methods that actually stick. In-person in Melbourne or via telehealth across Australia.
You don’t need a diagnosis or a crisis to see a counsellor. Many people come to Invictus Health simply because something isn’t right – work pressure that follows you home, a relationship that feels stuck, a loss you haven’t had room to process, or a flatness you can’t explain.
General counselling gives you a regular, confidential space to slow down, make sense of what’s happening, and build practical strategies for the present and near future. Your counsellor won’t treat you like a case file. They will get to know you, your culture, your values and your lived experience, and work at your pace.
Our counsellors draw on evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), trauma-informed practice and relational therapies, tailored to what you need.
There’s no problem too small to start. Common reasons people see us include:
Feeling on edge, stretched thin, or unable to switch off from work, study or caring responsibilities.
Migration, separation, career change, becoming a parent, retirement, or any big shift that has knocked you off balance.
The death of someone close, but also the quieter losses – health, relationships, identity, home.
Conflict, communication breakdowns, co-parenting challenges, and family or intergenerational pressures.
Culture, sexuality, gender, neurodivergence and faith – and what it means to live between worlds
Low motivation, irritability, or a sense of being stuck. You don’t need to have it figured out to start.
Low-cost counselling because support should be accessible to all. Individual sessions $80-$120.
You can book directly. If you have a referral, it can help your counsellor support you.
Individual counselling sessions are available for 60 or 90 minutes.
Visit us in Preston, Melbourne, or connect by telehealth from anywhere in Australia.
Medicare does not currently provide rebates for counsellors under the Mental Health Care Plan. If you would like Medicare-rebated sessions with a clinical psychologist, ask us about a Mental Health Care Plan referral from your GP.
Process
You call or fill out our form. Tell us what's happening and what you need. We listen without judgment and answer your questions about how we work.
We meet and talk through your situation in detail. This helps us understand your challenges and decide on the best approach for you moving forward.
You attend regular sessions where we develop strategies and skills tailored to your needs. Between sessions, you practise what you've learned in daily life.
As you gain confidence and tools, sessions may reduce in frequency. You'll always have access to support when you need it, whether that's months or years later.
Counselling focuses on current life challenges and emotional support – practical strategies, coping skills and insight. Psychologists assess, diagnose and treat mental health conditions. Counsellors do not diagnose, but they provide a safe space to talk, reflect and build skills. If we think you’d be better served by a psychologist, we’ll tell you and help you get there.
There’s no fixed timeline. Some people find what they need in a few months; others work longer. We move at your pace and adjust as you progress.
Your first session is about getting to know you and what you want from counselling. You can bring a specific problem, a long story, or just a feeling that something needs to change. You’ll leave with initial reflections and simple tools to start using between sessions.
Yes. What you share stays between you and your counsellor, with rare exceptions only when someone’s safety is at risk.
Yes. Your comfort matters, and we’ll find someone who works better for you.
We take a $50 deposit to secure your appointment. The deposit becomes non-refundable if you don’t attend or cancel within 48 hours of your session.
Our counsellors are ready to help you build the life you want. Book online or call us – no referral needed.
