FAQs

Find answers about our assessment process and what to expect

How long does an assessment take?

Most assessments span two to four hours across multiple sessions. We break the process into manageable parts so you’re not overwhelmed. The exact timeline depends on what we’re investigating and your individual needs.

What happens after diagnosis?

We don’t stop at diagnosis. You’ll receive a detailed report and recommendations for next steps. We can discuss strategies, interventions, or referrals to other specialists based on what you need.

Can children be assessed?

Yes. Our paediatric neuropsychologists specialize in assessing children and adolescents. We use age-appropriate testing and involve parents in understanding the results.

Is telehealth available?

We offer telehealth appointments across Australia. Some parts of the assessment work best in person, but we’ll discuss options that suit your location and circumstances.

What makes an assessment neuro-affirming?

We see neurodiversity as a difference, not a disorder. Our approach respects how your brain works while identifying the support that helps you function best. We listen to your experience and build understanding from there.

What makes Invictus different from other clinics?

  1. Neuroaffirming assessments grounded in real understanding
Every assessment is guided by professionals who live and work at the intersection of neurodiversity, psychology, and lived experience. This means you get more than a label — you get insight that respects your identity, culture, and story.
  2. Comprehensive and evidence-based
We use gold-standard assessment tools and current research — integrating cognitive testing, behavioural observations, developmental history, and stakeholder input to deliver a detailed, accurate profile.
  3. For every age and stage
From early childhood through to adulthood, we tailor our assessments to meet your developmental and life context. Whether you’re supporting a child at school, navigating work challenges, or re-evaluating your own experiences, your journey starts with understanding.
  4. Intersectional and inclusive care
Our diverse clinicians reflect the communities we serve. We understand how gender, culture, language, trauma history, and identity shape neurodiverse experiences — and we ensure every assessment recognises that.
  5. Clear recommendations that actually help
You’ll leave with a practical, easy-to-understand report, and concrete strategies for support — from school accommodations and workplace adjustments to therapeutic plans and life tools that empower long-term wellbeing.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

Bring any previous assessments, school reports, or medical records that might be relevant. A list of medications you’re taking helps too. We’ll send you a checklist before your first session so nothing gets missed.

What is the difference between ADHD and ASD?

We begin with a detailed conversation about your history, then move through standardized cognitive testing designed to measure attention, impulse control, and executive function. The final report translates these findings into practical insights about how your brain works and what support helps you succeed.

How do I know if I need an assessment?

If you’ve struggled with focus, impulse control, or social connection, an assessment can clarify what’s happening. We listen to your story and use evidence-based testing to understand your profile. Many people discover answers they’ve been searching for their whole lives.

Does it show up differently in women and men?

Gather any previous assessments, educational records, or medical documentation that might shed light on your history. A current list of medications is helpful too. We’ll send you a preparation guide before your session so you know exactly what to expect and nothing important gets overlooked.

What is stimming in ADHD and ASD?

Gather any previous assessments, educational records, or medical documentation that might shed light on your history. A current list of medications is helpful too. We’ll send you a preparation guide before your session so you know exactly what to expect and nothing important gets overlooked.

Do you provide post-assessment support?

Absolutely; many people come to us after years of self-doubt or feeling misunderstood and we want to help as much as possible. We can assist with:

  • Psychological therapy and coaching

  • Family and educator consultations

  • NDIS support coordination and documentation

  • Workplace recommendations and neuroinclusive planning

Invictus Health bridges clinical excellence with human connection — because understanding neurodiversity should never feel clinical alone.
