Think you might like boys? Think you might like girls? Think you might like both? Collectively, we’ve got you covered.

We are not just here to talk about ‘gay’ problems, we’re here to talk about life problems but in a nonjudgmental and safe space. You’ve got anxiety? Ash is your girl, you’ve got ADHD? Maxi is your boy. We both have lived experience with mental ill health and living life as a gay person so you can take comfort in knowing that we understand what it’s like and the being a queer person looking for help.

We are not going to think you’re talking violence if you say your boyfriend beat your face and we’re not going to judge if you moved in with your girlfriend after the first date (it happens). We also do not have to talk about anything gay at all! If you are struggling with depression, we are not going to redirect the conversation to talk about being same sex attracted.

We are just two counsellors who want to help anyone that feels like they need help. Counselling only works if you can be honest with your counsellor, and not feel you have to hide parts of yourself because you don’t know the other person will react.

We listen and we don’t judge.

And we are not going to ask you when you ‘chose’ to be gay *massive eye roll emoji*

So, who are we?

We’re Ashley and Maxi, and we’re so glad you’ve found us. Together, we are “Two Gay Counsellors,” and we’re here to provide a safe, compassionate, and affirming space for anyone looking for support on their mental health journey.

As members of the LGBTQ+ community who have personally navigated the ups and downs of mental health, we know how tough it can be to feel truly understood. Even though we are called ‘two gay counsellors” we are not only here for the gays, we are here for everyone under the LGBTQ+ umbrella (and also for those who are not!).

Why We’re Here

We started “Two Gay Counsellors” because we’ve experienced firsthand how valuable it is to have someone who truly gets it. Someone who not only listens but also understands the complexities of navigating mental health within the LGBTQ+ community.

Our lived experiences fuel our passion for creating a space where you can be your authentic self without fear of judgment.

A Little About Us

Hi, I’m Ashley! I’m a gay woman, a mental health advocate, and a lover of all things plants, coffee and cats. My journey hasn’t been easy—I’ve struggled with anxiety and depression for decades, often feeling like I had to hide my true self because I was scared of how people would respond. Anxiety in particular is no joke; I was not prepared for how debilitating it could be (I thought my background in depression would prepare me but I was sorely mistaken). But through counselling, education and self-discovery, I found the strength to embrace who I am, and now I’m here to help you do the same. You can also follow me on Instagram at @thegothcounsellor

Maxi (He/Him):

Hey there, I’m Maxi! I’m a gay man with a deep passion for helping others find light in their darkest moments. I live with ASD and ADHD, which have shaped my perspective and deepened my empathy for those navigating neurodiversity. I also hold a Master’s degree in Counselling and a Graduate Diploma of Science in Medicine (Sexual and Reproductive Health), allowing me to provide specialized support for intimacy, relationships, and sexual well-being. Counselling changed my life, and it’s my mission to pay that forward by supporting others in their journey to healing and self-love.
