NDIS योजना पुनर्मूल्यांकन: अपने सहायक साक्ष्य तैयार करना

29 सितम्बर 2026

Your NDIS plan is not set forever. When your plan is due to end, or your needs change a lot, the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) may give you a new plan. This is called an NDIS plan reassessment.

The rules for reassessments changed in August 2026, and more changes start over the next two years. This guide explains the current process and how to prepare evidence that shows what you need. It is general information, so please speak with a qualified professional about your situation.

मुख्य बिंदु

  • A plan reassessment gives you a new plan. A plan variation changes part of your current plan.
  • Since August 2026, only you, your plan nominee or your child representative can ask for a reassessment. A provider cannot ask for you.
  • The NDIA has 90 days to decide whether to reassess your plan after you ask.
  • Evidence should be recent and show changes in your functioning, goals and support needs.
  • From 1 October 2026, some support budgets are being reduced as plans are created or reassessed.
  • New assessment and planning processes are due to start from April 2027.

Reassessment, variation and check-in: what is the difference?

The NDIA uses several terms that sound alike. Knowing which one applies helps you prepare the right evidence.

Term What it means
Check-in A conversation about how your plan is going. The NDIA says you will usually have one 2 to 3 months before your plan ends, or if big changes are coming up.
Plan variation A change to part of your current plan, such as your reassessment date, plan management type or a specific support. The NDIA aims to decide within 21 days once it has the information it needs.
Plan reassessment A new plan with different NDIS supports, usually because your situation has changed a lot or your plan is ending.

The NDIA’s plan variation page explains when a variation may be enough, without a full reassessment.

What changed in 2026

The Securing the NDIS for Future Generations laws passed Parliament in August 2026. Some changes to reassessments have already started.

Who can ask for a reassessment

Only participants, plan nominees or child representatives can now ask for a reassessment. The NDIA’s plan reassessment page says you cannot give consent to someone else, such as a provider, to ask for you. Support coordinators and therapists can still help you prepare evidence.

What the request is based on

The NDIA says it considers requests based on significant, ongoing changes to your functional capacity, living arrangements or support needs. It has 90 days to decide whether to reassess your plan once it receives your request. You can keep using your current plan while it decides.

Budget reductions from 1 October 2026

The NDIA has announced changes to support budgets. Budgets for social, economic and community participation supports and for improved daily living skills will be reduced as plans are created or reassessed from 1 October 2026, or renewed from 1 February 2027. Some supports are protected, including employment supports, disability-related health supports, high intensity supports, and intensive and complex behaviour supports. The NDIA says it will publish a full list of supports that are not affected.

The NDIA’s guide to decision reviews says budget reductions are not reviewable decisions. If budget reductions have been applied and you have high support needs, you can ask for a variation.

What is coming next

  • From 1 February 2027: plan renewals replace plan continuations. When a plan is due to end, it will either be reassessed or renewed with the same supports. Unspent funds will not carry over.
  • From April 2027: the NDIA will start introducing a new way of planning, including a support needs assessment to help set budgets.
  • From 1 January 2028: a new standardised assessment of functional capacity starts for new applicants, and existing participants will be reassessed over 3 years.

Dates and details may change as the new rules are put in place. Check the NDIS website before your check-in or reassessment.

Preparing your supporting evidence

The plan reassessment page says evidence for a reassessment request should be dated within 4 months of the date you ask, and after the date your current plan was approved. It should come from health professionals and show substantial, ongoing changes in your support needs.

What to gather

  • Progress reports from your providers. These should describe what supports you used, what changed in your daily functioning, and progress toward your goals.
  • Recommendations for your next plan. Your treating professionals can say what supports they recommend and why.
  • Updated assessments. Standardised measures repeated over time can show change clearly.
  • Quotes for any equipment or modifications.
  • Your own statement about what is working, what is not, and any changes coming up, such as finishing school or moving house.

What makes a progress report useful

The NDIA’s check-in guidance says your treating health professional can give you advice about supports for your next plan, and evidence to back up their suggestions. Reports are most useful when they:

  • link each recommendation to a goal and a functional need
  • describe what has improved and what has not
  • explain what would likely happen if a support stopped
  • use plain language and specific examples
  • say how often a support is needed and for how long.

A simple timeline

  1. About 4 to 6 months before your plan ends: look at your goals and note what is and is not working. Tell your providers you will need reports.
  2. About 3 months before: ask providers for progress reports and recommendations. Book any updated assessments.
  3. Before your check-in: read your reports, check they are accurate, and make sure they tell a consistent story. Ask providers to fix any errors.
  4. At your check-in: share your evidence and explain any changes in your life.

This timeline is a suggestion only. If your needs change suddenly, you do not have to wait for your plan to end.

If your needs have gone down

Evidence should be honest either way. If you have built skills and need less support in one area, say so. You may need more support in another area, and a clear report helps the NDIA see the full picture.

At the check-in or reassessment meeting

The NDIA’s guide to preparing for a check-in suggests thinking about your goals, your current supports, community supports and upcoming life changes. You can bring someone who knows you well, such as a family member, friend, support coordinator or recovery coach.

Bring copies of your evidence, and write down the key points you want to make. If you disagree with a reassessment decision, you can ask for an internal review within 3 months of receiving it.

Invictus Health कैसे मदद कर सकता है

Our psychologists and neuropsychologists provide NDIS assessments and reports that describe functional capacity and support needs. Repeating a standardised assessment can help show how needs have changed since your last plan.

Where memory, attention or planning have changed, a neuropsychological assessment can measure these skills in detail. Our एनडीआईएस कार्यक्रम focus on building strengths and working toward goals. See our fees page for costs.

A report adds information to your reassessment. It does not guarantee any particular plan or funding.

अक्सर पूछे जाने वाले प्रश्न

Can my support coordinator request an NDIS reassessment for me?

Not since the August 2026 changes. The NDIA says only participants, plan nominees or child representatives can ask for a reassessment, and you cannot give consent to a provider to ask for you. Your support coordinator can still help you understand the process, gather evidence and prepare for your check-in.

How long does an NDIS plan reassessment take?

If you ask for a reassessment, the NDIA has 90 days to decide whether it will reassess your plan. You can keep using your current plan while it decides. The NDIA publishes its service timeframes in the Participant Service Guarantee, which is worth checking for current targets.

What happens to unspent NDIS funds?

From 1 February 2027, plan renewals replace plan continuations. The NDIA says unspent funds from the previous plan will not be carried over to a renewed plan. If you have unspent funds, it helps to understand why, such as provider waitlists, and explain this at your check-in.

Can I challenge a reassessment decision?

Most reassessment decisions are reviewable. You can ask the NDIA for an internal review within 3 months of receiving the decision in writing. A decision not to reassess your plan can also be reviewed. The NDIA says budget reductions are not reviewable, but you can ask for a variation if you have high support needs.

How recent should reports be for an NDIS reassessment?

For a reassessment request, the NDIA says evidence should be dated within 4 months of when you ask, and after your current plan was approved. For a scheduled check-in, recent reports that reflect your current situation are most useful. Ask providers early, as reports can take time to write.
